“THE NIGERIAN JOB” - LEVERAGE 101
correspond asked: favourite sophie devereaux moment (other than wwpd, ofc): what the hell’s a sophie?
I. LOVE. THIS. INTRODUCTION. It’s my favorite next to Juliet Burke’s. It’s perfect because it’s threefold and tells us everything (and nothing, much like all the rest of the OT5): her horrendous but completely hilarious “acting,” her slapstick To Catch A Thief past with Nate. THEN. THEN. Her unfuckingbelievably elegant true introduction. Sophie, the Grifter, is confident, smart and oh my god, you fall in love with her because in those few seconds she has Nate in shambles. It’s wonderful how much her glee at Nate’s Playing Her Side is subtle and the way Gina plays it is like: of course, finally but she’s not cocky or bashful. She looks at him, then at the team and is ALL SMILES because she knows Nate only picks the best and she’s going to be a part of whatever crazy plan he has and it’s fun. She knows she’s going to have fun. HOTDAMN, ILU, SOPHIESUS.
OH AND NOT LETTING ME PICK “WHAT WOULD PARKER DO” WAS EVIL! BECAUSE THIS OT5 AND THEIR EPIC MOMENTS.

One of my favourite acting stories of the show is actually what happens right after this flashback. We shot Gina’s side first, and Gina’s line is, I always knew you had it in you, when [Nate] says that he’s working the other side of the law now. But when I was working with Gina, I said to her that the subtext of that line is, I always knew you were in love with me. So I said, “This is the subtext.” And then we did the scene and she really nailed the performance. When we turned around on Tim, his first take was good but it wasn’t great. So I whispered into Gina’s ear, “Don’t say the line; say the subtext.” So off-camera, she said, “I always knew you were in love with me.” […] And it’s so honest. It was such an honest moment.
